Abstract
We present our recent progress on the simulation of the Platinum-Carbon (Pt-C) binary system during freezing and melting (close to the eutectic point). The simulations are performed by the open source library "OpenPhase"[1]. The library is based on the multi-phase-field multicomponent model [2, 3]. The simulations reproduce cooling curves as well as heating curves of the Pt-C eutectic close to the equilibrium temperature. The needle/rodlike morphology, seen in real Pt-C eutectics, was computationally reproduced. Representative freezing- and meltingcurves were simulated. The simulations are very important to understand the Pt-C eutectic transformation, which is used as a high-temperature (>2000K) reference point.
