Micro-macrosimulation of laser remelting of an aluminium coating on steel
A simplified approach is presented on the macroscale, based on a transient thermal finite element/control volume analysis to evaluate the temperature field and the mean concentration of the meltpool. In order to describe the complex interaction between meltpool depth and liquid concentration, a simple model has been developed, by which the concentration of the liquid phase is treated as perfectly mixed. From the macroscopic analysis, the temperature gradient, the mean concentration and the cooling rate at the solidification front are used to provide input data for the microscale simulation. This simulation is based on a phase field approach in order to describe the microstructure and the microsegregation profile. The results of this micro-macro simulation reveal qualitative agreement with the experimental investigation of the microstructure.
